Held on Monday June 4th 2012 at the Sports Hall Ground.
This was the Parish Councils second Fete. Our first effort the year before was good, but we wanted to make this even better. There had not been a Village Fete for about 10 years, so it was time it was revised. Fete’s are very important in Village life, they are a focus of unity. So we hope to continue this event into the future. Next year’s Fete will be held on Monday 27th May 2013.
This year the committee was given a grant of £300.00, so we were able to get in some entertainment. We had Morris Men, a Folk Group and a young street magician. John Bird was there again with his Music Machine. The Bennet Arms provided the beer tent and B B Q, which was very popular. The Mouse Lane Group once again did Tea’s and home- made cakes. The P T A and Acorns did face painting. The over 50’s club did a giant Tombola. The Bowling club were bowling for a pig [not a real one]. The Friends of Rougham Church held a White Elephant stall. St Mary’s Church held a Messy church. The Tower association were there. Plus lots of individual stalls.
It was disappointing that the Baptist Church, the Primary School, the Police, and the Cricket Club did not take part. Let’s hope they will join with us next year. We had various competitions including Welly Wanging, which was very popular. The weather was good although it rained in the morning when we were putting up the tents. John Bird raised £215.00 for the Air Ambulance, and £150.00 was raised by Mick King for Breast Cancer, and didn’t he look good in pink.
